The season-opening
concert featured Haydn’s great Missa in tempore belli (Mass in Time
of War) with chamber orchestra. The first half of concert included works
by Czech composer Antonin Dvorák, and the music of Albertan, Allan Bevan. This concert,
presented in partnership with the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central
European Studies at the University of Alberta, was the first in a series
of annual concerts featuring Haydn’s late Masses and the music of
central Europe.

Anders Eby, Guest Conductor
The second concert
brings Pro Coro Canada’s former Artistic Director, Anders Eby (Sweden)
as guest conductor. Anders Eby, an extremely gifted and charismatic conductor,
will lead the choir in a programme featuring the beautiful and vibrant a
cappella music of his homeland.

Mária Guinand Returns!

Maria Guinand, Guest Conductor
The choir has the
thrill of bringing back the wonderful Venezuelan conductor, Mária Guinand
for a Latin Fiesta! Ms. Guinand is a very dynamic conductor, and brings
great excitement to the music. Her 2002 debut with the choir was electrifying!

Associate Conductor, Trent Worthington leads the choir in a programme of
jazz choral works, featuring jazz legends
P.J. Perry (saxophone) and Doug Riley (piano), with the Victoria School of Performing Arts Concert Choir, Jeremy Spurgeon (piano), and of course the exquisite sound and highly versatile talents
of Pro Coro Canada.

For its highly popular Good Friday concert, Pro Coro Canada with chamber orchestra performs one of the world’s most beloved works, Mozart’s Requiem – a work rich in beauty and great depth.
As an exciting bonus, Pro Coro Canada will also be presenting the world première performance of a major composition by Allan Bevan, Nou Goth Sonne Under Wode. Mr. Bevan is quickly becoming recognized as one of Canada's most outstanding a respected composers. Performers, audiences and music reviewers are unanimous in their praise of his work - richly scored, and powerfully moving.
